Thanks for the book suggestion, Jason. The way I see it, I'm always in beer land, with breweries around almost every corner almost anywhere in the country--but I can't read ahead on everything. I'll taste what I find, then tell about it--and maybe read later. Cheers.

You definitely should have read this: http://www.amazon.com/Northern-California-Craft-Beer-Guide/dp/1937359166/ before venturing off into beer land. There's a whole lot more out there than one would suspect and many of them aren't too shabby. You also missed one of my favorites, Redwood Curtain in Arcata.

What the North Coast lacks in quantity it more than makes up for in quality. Russian River, North Coast, Lagunitas, Boonville, Mendocino Brewing, these breweries brew the finest beers I've ever had, and some are legendary for spearheading original and revival brew styles. You haven't had a DIPA until you've had Pliny the Elder. You haven't had a Russian Imperial Stout until you've had Old Rasputin. Mendocino Brewing makes what I consider the most well-rounded, satisfying pale ales. Any West Coast beer enthusiast should be familiar with these breweries.
