We've been traveling around the world for a year chasing donuts. The stinkiest one, that we couldn't even finish, was a durian donut in Malacca, Malaysia. Oh that smell! An early thought was "how can I get that close enough to my nose to put it in my mouth?." After tasting this "king of fruits" I wondered aloud: "how can I describe this to the folks back home?" The answer came from Avah S., who offered: "sweet, rotten onions, eaten in a toilet." Hurrah for durians, and those who love them. Many first-time durian tasters may be distracted by the aroma.
