My favorite Satchel Paige story, more than likely untrue. A reporter didn't believe all of the stories about how fast he could throw. So, he told Satch to show him. Paige just stood there for several seconds before saying 'Want to see it again?'

DON'T LOOK BACK
The Story of Leroy 'Satchel' Paige

HellO Baby. This is how 'Satchel' addressed me when he wrote several letters to me. I only have two letters remaining
and a good picture a Doctor photographed of Satchel Paige with Janet Allen (me)
in the Springfield Illinois
Hospital in the 80's.He was working for a minor league baseball club and needed rest.
I would like to submit my letters and Photo to Smithsonian
Archives.
Please contact me at my mail.
In conclusion,Satchel wrote something to me from Kansas City Mo. dated on Tuesday 1981 that I'LL NEVER FORGET.
He wrote, "Sugar let me tell you this what ever you do put your best down so if you fail you can,nt say that you diddin,t do your best do your best and you might strick gold that is the way I made my way."
Satchel was my Best Friend in the 80's. He told me how he won the World Series and how the exuberant crowd was looking for him and how he had to sneak out of the Stadium in a wagon all covered up in Hay. HE
was the GREATEST PITCHER IN BASEBALL HISTORY. He praticed his knuckle ball throwing rocks across the Springfield lake.
I took him fishing and he made me sing the song 'summertime.'
There are many more stories of Satchel Paige and he wasn't all that bad. He was God's Child.

Your Friend,
Janet Allen
