"In the early morning, fishermen clean their nets by Erhai Lake" by Johan Ensing won the grand prize in Smithsonian magazine's 6th annual photo contest.

Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to Smithsonian magazine’s 7th annual photo contest, which will be put to bed tomorrow, December 16, at 2:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time. If you’re itching for recognition, you have until that time to enter your photos in one of five categories—Altered Images, Americana, The Natural World, People and Travel. But for those of you unable to make the deadline, worry not for the photo contest will again be accepting entries for the 8th annual photo contest beginning March 1, 2010 and you’ll get another chance to contend for a spot in the top 50, not to mention fabulous prizes. (Well, traditionally it’s money, but who’s going to argue with that?) The 7th contest’s 50 finalists will also be announced on March 1, so be sure to check the photo contest main site for the announcement. So, if you’re raring to go, you can enter the photo contest here. Or, if you haven’t already, you can register online here. Otherwise, adios, au revoir and auf wiederzein until next year!
