Officials at the National Museum of American History report the following:

The Supremes costumes were donated to the National Museum of American History in 1981 by Mary Wilson through her representative, John Christe, who made the offer of donation in a handwritten letter. The Deed of Gift for the three costumes is signed by Ms. Wilson. She identified the costumes as being worn by The Supremes in 1966-67. Inside each costume, is sewn the name of its wearer, Cindy Birdsong, Mary Wilson, and Diana Ross.

Dear Sir

The photograph of the yellow Supremes gowns displayed in the article above has sent much intrigue around the world.

As a Collectors' Society and Fan Club of all things Supremes, we house photographic images of all known Supremes gowns ever worn on television, stage, theatre and concerts.

The costumes in the article are totally unknown to us and our catalogue of all known surviving artifacts.

We have put the image to the most avid of all Supremes collectors including former members of the group who are completely unaware of the dresses. I am wondering if you would kindly confirm their source and their authenticity please. Kind regards.
