Some where in New York City there is a converted elevated rail line which has been converted to a park-like setting with plantings, walk ways, seating, etc. I thought Smithsonian had an article but I can locate it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Miciah,

I checked in with Jeff Schneider, the grounds manager for Smithsonian Gardens and he reports that "a staff of 25 horticulturists and gardeners, working with a budget of $365,000, develop and maintain about 183 acres around 17 museums and support facilities in the Washington DC metro area," he says. "This does not include the National Zoo or Cooper Hewitt in New York."

Beautiful! I can't wait to visit. How much does it cost to maintain all of the gardens? How may people does it take to keep them up?
