		<description>in reply to jeb, i suspect babe also hit well for average, so he hit his fair share of line drives in addition to flyouts. also, 54 home runs to 80 strikeouts does not seem much in a modern era where home run hitters routinely strikeout 100+ times per year.</description>

		<description>The Yankees have a tradition of home-run hitters, which they probably were able to maintain because they had a whole dugout full of solid line-drive hitters that could make up for all the strikouts and easy catches that are an inevitable side effect of going for the fences.  That first year with the Yankees, the Babe hit 54 home runs . . . and struck out 80 times.</description>
