"Hockley used a gear mechanism in a trailer jack, so that by racheting a tool, he can draw the pieces tightly together."

I believe the term is correctly spelled as "ratcheting"

I am surprised to be finding numerous misspellings within the Smithsonian's article databases..

Also, was this exhibit displayed at the NYC Grand Central Terminal, or at the NYC Grand Central Station post office??
Lastly, are these articles edited before published?

I am confused by the article...specifically where this is to be unveiled! Is it indeed being displayed in the Post Office, which is Grand Central Station, or did you mean it is to be displayed in the Rail TERMINAL-which is correctly named Grand Central TERMINAL-but often called in error, Grand Central Station??? If the latter, I should hope Smithsonian would be aware of this error in placename.

Sorry to be blunt, but this snake has a way too large girth. An 18 foot Anaconda caught last year had a girth of 27 inches. So if you use that as a base, a 48 foot snake will have a girth of only 72 inches. i.e. about 2 feet in diameter at the longest place. This replica has a girth about 2 or 3 times that. I find if hard to believe that a snake of this size can even move.

Kevin continues to amaze me with his art. I have known Kevin for years and he is so humble. Kevin did a bear rug for me 30 years ago (I still have it). One of my favorite displays was at Algonquin park. It was a dead deer in the snow with a eagle fighting ravens over it. Kevin I don't know how you do it but keep doing it. Great job...again.
