I am a huge fan of GRANT WOOD. This piece - if it is indeed UNFINISHED lacks his smooth roundness; indeed, he made all of Iowa look like there was nary a sharp edge anywhere!

I do not like the reflective water - it seems too impressionistic; the clouds are poorly composed;
even the fields with corn and hay are not executed well...
However, the detail of canvas and paint applications are very interesting.

I believe it might have been a work in progress.

I do know, from extensive reading and having visited with Nan (his sister), Grant Wood did delightful, memorable pranks and 'humor was a serious part of his life!'

Good Luck!

Did the bigfoot prints have 8 toes?
TBH I thought those shrub "toes" were rows of orchard trees, perhaps farther away. The perspective seems odd. However, I do like the soft rolling roundness of the landscape.

Seems obvious to even a casual observer that this can't be by Grant Wood - it doesn't even come close to the clean lines and fine polish of his later works. Could be someone did this in the style of Wood, and presented it to him as a gift. I wouldn't look at this and think "Grant Wood" - I'd look at this and think "High School Art Class".
