Nice article. If you want more, I spent 30 years collecting and writing about label art, and I am the historian of the Schmidt Litho Company. Happy to help in the future. -- Pat Jacobsen

This is a most interesting site. Thanks for putting it together.

In my area, the foothills of Northern California, there is a festival every year celebrating mandarin fruit.
http://www.mountainmandarins.com/festival.htm

This region has been a fruit growing district of some renown. Over the years citrus and deciduous fruit have been a large precentage of the agricultural economy.

Follwo the above link to our current fruit crate label display at the California State Railroad Museum. A whole new crop will be coming later this month.

Fascinating post, for both the history and the stunning visuals. I am from California, but never knew how the orange industry influenced development there and ultimately the industry's own demise. Gotta go get some of those beautiful labels now.

How lovely and evocative. Reminiscent of the kinds of packaging I'd see in my grandmother's kitchen back in the 50s.

Schmidt's work is indeed art in its own right.
