Great Article and advice! I too have found myself wishing I could change my career and life path in my early 30's and really find a lot of similarities in the things you have said to my own. I wish I would have known back in my school days how and what I had to do to achieve the goals that seem so far away now, but I am rejuvenated by your words here and I am now going to take steps to get more involved in my museums and such(also living in NJ). You can't always change everything you may want to, but I DO have control over making a few minor changes that in the long run will ultimately make me happier.
Thanks again

Sincerely

Wonderful article, Brian. I wish there would have been more information on the ins and outs and "how to's" of a paleontology career when I was aspiring in elementary and high school. When I enrolled in the geology/paleo program in college I quickly became overwhelmed with math and physical science classes that I had never anticipated, had no previous knowledge or experience with, and did not find relevant. I never did make the cut, and that's a hard thing to deal with. I still do some "dinosaur stuff" as a hobby and follow the latest in the paleo field, but a little better preparedness along with some guidance and information could have saved a lot of frustration and heartache.

Thanks for publishing this. It's too late for me to change careers, but I'm hoping to follow the field a bit more closely.
