The thing that fascinates me most about sauropods is the journey the food takes between the skull and the guts. In other words. How are these creatures who are doing little to no mastication passing these huge quantities of rough plant material down those incredibly long throats?

Kind of like swallowing a bowl of Wheaties without chewing.

I asked the good folks over at Sauropod Vertebra Picture of the Week (SVPOW), and they made the good point that it would be difficult (hopefully not impossible) to model. They said it is a topic frequently discussed and quipped something about boatloads of saliva.</description>
