Amanda D--really?! Did we grow up at the same time, I wonder? What a small world. I am inclined to agree with you; I'm quite certain she indulges now and then. Alas, a caricaturization of her real-world self is all that a 500-word story will allow.

Although I have to admit I have never given much concern to manners when eating BBQ, I do agree the the sloppy, messy somtimes barbaric way I eat BBQ is all part of the fun. It's like going to the beach and not getting wet. Sure you can enjoy the day soaking up the sun, listening to the tide and dancing around the shore allowing the waves to only lick at your heals and ankles but you would miss the full exilleration of battling each blast of water, the sting of salt in your eyes and the burn of exhaustion in your lungs. In the same way when eating BBQ you have to be ready to dive in and and enjoy the challenge.

Katrina - I grew up in that same town and I know exactly what you're talking about. I've got to think that even Mrs. Thorson skips the delicate and enjoys the delicacy once in a while.
