Im glad Im not the only one who still reads and loves Laura's books.....I have them all...The Long Winter reading is an annual event under the covers every January...If you get a chance, visit her home in Mansfield MO...So worth it to see the things she kept..Pa's fiddle, Mary's bead work...Her bread plate that survived the fire in South Dakota, Her sewing cabinet from a cigar box built by Almanzo......My next destination is Almanzo's family home in Malone, NY.

I was thinking about Laura's long winter the other day as well. Right now I have financial troubles, plus the snow, and I keep thinking about how her family handled things that winter... and how so many families now (myself included) complain if the Internet goes out for a few hours!

Thank you for the nostalgia. Happy birthday Laura!!!

I devoured these books as a child, and read them over and over as did mother. I came across the whole set at a yard sale, and bought them for my unborn children!
I happened to be in so. Minnesota a few years back with my mother, and we decided to do a small pilgrimage to a couple of the Wilder homesites.
We visited the 'Big Woods' area near Lake Pepin where Laura was born (not much in the way of woods anymore!), and visited the site of the home near Plum Creek. It really brought those books to life to stand where all these stories took place...if you are a fan, I heartily recommend it!
