You took me back to Rome with your story! I was 23 when I visited. My friend was Stefania and she was Italian. She took me to see the same church (very creepy). Her sister took us to a small trattoria in Trastevere for a great meal. And when I stayed too late at Piazza Di Spagna one night, a law student named Antonio took me home on his Vespa. Thank you for the memories and a beautifully written story:)

The writer's experience is dead on...However, as far as the Vatican City area is concerned, there are a small handful of stellar well-rated restaurants that offer authentic Roman fare, including my favorite local specialty, pappardelle pasta.
