I've noticed an increasing national obsession with whoopie pies of late. Being a lifetime resident of Pennsylvania, I didn't really understand all the excitement. I grew up seeing whoopie pies in grocery stores, farmers markets, and the Amish bake stand at the local grange fair so for me they're a tasty but common treat. I don't know if they originated in PA or not, but they've certainly been part of the food culture here for a long time!
