That's a wonderful idea! It's great that there can be convenient plates that don't harm the environment - especially if those plates are so prettily designed. It's a little expensive, but still, isn't there something beautifully romantic about eating off a dainty dish of fallen leaves? :P

These are so great. We got them in bulk here: http://www.joannehudson.com/dinnerware/verterra-disposable-plates.html

But be warned. Each one is completely different. It's not like buying paper plates. You have to be okay with spots, different colors and slightly different sized plates... but I guess that's the joy of a natural product.

Love the concept, and the plates look good too! Two challenges with these and all other "compostable" products: 1. For caterers or restuarants, you have no control with what people do with their trash - it rarely ever ends up where it's supposed to. Landfills are designed to prevent decomposition. 2. Cost. no consumer is going to spend $1/plate when you can get 50 paper ones for that price. Until someone comes up with a sustainable idea that's competitively priced, it'll always be a challenge. Then you just have to change how America throws things away. Big tasks.

It's a great idea. Unfortunately, the $1.00 per plate price in a time of great economic difficuly and high unemployment in the United States will make that price prohibitive for a lot of Americans for the present.
