During the Normandy Impressionist Festival of 2010, a number of these 'guinguettes' were recreated. And I would be surprised if they were not also on the cards for the second festival in 2013. The term guinguette is still used in France for a waterside café, although probably unlikely to include rowdy, cheerful singing as it did in Renoir's time - sadly!

Another famous such painting is Van Gogh's 'La Guinguette' at the Musée d'Orsay.

Inspirational post!

This is a fabulous idea. I love all your suggestions. My only suggestion would be to ask the female guests to wear lovely hats with flowers, if possible. Not to forget the men...they could also wear hats suitable for a Renoir event.

This is a great idea! You can get silicone molds (for soap or candy) with impressionistic paintings on them. Just google silicone soap molds and you should be able to find these easily. I have used these molds for soap and Van Gogh's Starry Night silicone mold is stunning when made up. Thanks again for the great idea!

Thanks for filling my head with vibrant, colorful ideas.
I can see white table clothes holding teared plates of fruit welcoming an early summer (Mother's Day event). Wine glasses ca be flowing with red and yellow napkins. You are amzing to offer many ideas for food...our kitchen at the club will be buzzing with activity.

Hi Jesse:

What an absolutely great idea!!!!!! I've been to the restaurant where this party happened many years ago.

I would love to do the music for such a party. If you hear from anyone interested in doing this and wants a bit of French chanson to go along with it, I am there!!!

All the best in 2012
