The sad fact is that funding for so many studies, such as this one, are only provided on the basis that the study is in some way related to anthropogenic Global Warming. It is quite likely that this study would not have even been done if it were not. The oversimplification of science is taken by the media as well as others with agendas and they run with it, so as in this case, it adds to the so-called mounting 'evidence' of dire consequences in relation to temperature. It is shameful that the Smithsonian has chosen to take sides on this issue and claim our collective responsibility for it. The facts are simply not there to prove any substantial warming over at least 15 or 16 years. Anyone interested in the reality of the situation, which is of course apart from the climate change prophecies of doom by those afflicted with hysteria, I point you in the direction of Dr. Richard Lindzen of MIT and his presentation to the House of Lords earlier in the year.

Why am I not surprised that Starbucks is promoting such a huge rise in the cost of a cup of coffee. They make millions and avoid paying corporate taxes. They are just NOT team players.

Did the guy with the $23.60 Starbucks coffee ever sleep again? My record is 3 quad shot Ventis to get through a boring meeting.

I, for one, believe fully in human caused climate change and future environmental havoc. (Response to comments 1, 2 and 3.

However, since one of the most critical aspects of good coffee is fresh beans, you really cannot hoard them. I have had little luck with freezing beans - you have to wait until the outgassing process is complete, and then seal them from moisture. Maybe my big problem is that I haven't mastered the defrosting process.

Where there is money to be made there will be innovation. In the case of coffee it will be plant breeders working on developing hardier varieties of coffee. Evolution is the name of the game.

Let me guess. The solution is:

a) More government regulation.

b) Higher taxes.

c) More government spending.

Ironically, the very same solution for poverty, hunger, obesity, poor public education, pollution, sea serpent attacks and, I presume, male pattern baldness.

What is it with the incessant drumbeat of dire climate change alarmism at the Smithsonian. My "go to" source for science and historical information is way off the mark with respect to climate change. Stop using the IPCC as a reference for anything. There has been no statistically significant global warming for 16 years which completely contradicts the computer model predictions of the IPCC. At what point does Smithsonian actually look at the data?
