Fascinating stuff. My great-great-grandparents were living on Rivington Street in 1900 -- a bit after Marm's day, though probably around the date of your photo -- and the more I learn about that period, the stranger and wilder and more interesting it appears. So much of our immigrant history has been lost, in part willfully discarded by the next generation that wanted to appear modern and up-to-date and fully Americanized, and I'm happy to see it reemerge bit by bit from the old newspapers and photos.
