Claude Bowes-Lyon, 13th Earl of Strathmore, was widely believed to find Glamis's 'mystery' a terrible burden. "‘I have been into the room," one guest reported her had told his wife. "I have heard the secret, and if you wish to please me you will never mention the subject again."
