Hi Christine,

It is unbelievable, isn't it? The postscript is interesting: after his acquittal for murder Tirrell had to stand trial for adultery, and was found guilty. He ended up serving three years in state prison.

Is Mr Choate a member of the origins of the renowned and respected firm of Choate, Hall and Stuart?

What was the outcome of Mr. Tirrell's petition for a reduction of his legal fees?

Good grief. In addition to the shocking main facts of the case, I was struck by the fact that Tirrell was fleeing "charges of adultery." I didn't realize adultery was actually illegal at this time. A quick internet search reveals that anti-adultery laws are still on the books in some states, but what sort of penalties would Tirrell have faced, if convicted? And were these charges dropped after the murder trial?
