Wow. Very interesting stuff. I wonder how many nazis were able to emigrate to the United States or South America, in the end. Of course, I'm not sure what purpose it would serve today to identify their descendents...

It is very interesting to see what music can do.I was stationed in Japan right after WWll and the Japanese loved the Amercican Zazz music also. It was enjoyable to listen to as they "tried" to sound American.

Years ago, my wife bought me a CD of it, after hearing about it on NPR. Interesting story, but very so-so music. References to Roosevelt, Churchill and "their Jews" are shoe-horned desperately into the music.

Dear Mike, as I see your article seems to be for many internet users a sensacional news. But in the list of sources you didn't even mentioned two doc. films, i. e. "Propaganda Swing: dr Goebbels' Swing Orchestra" (Federal Rep. of Germany, 1989, dir. Florian Steinbiss and David Eisermann) and "Swing Under The Swastika" (UK, 1988, dir. John Jeremy). Those two excellent doc's I had a pleasure to present during my JAZZ FILM SALON FESTIVAL in 1989 in Warsaw, Poland. If you need any other infos - please let me know. With compliments. KRYSTIAN BRODACKI

I have heard some these recordings before from an obscure cassette compilation of historical recordings entitled "Hitler's Inferno." The listening proved interesting and some were uncomfortably amusing.

I'm sorry, but the list of Nazi music rules is fiction. The list was part of Czech fiction writer Joseph Škvorecký’s story “Eine Kleine Jazzmusik”, published in 1966. Everybody in 1960s Europe knew it was a fake list but it has entered into Internet lore. Please refer to snopes.com or http://irom.wordpress.com/2009/08/16/humor-nazi-germanys-dance-band-rules-of-1940/.

I assume that the trumpeter pictured, Charly Tabor, is the same Tabor who played the famous solo on Bert Kaempfert's 1960 hit Wonderland By Night, although that trumpeter's name is listed as Charlie.
