Joe and Sarah Moore pictured c.1905 with their eldest two children, Herman and Katherine. All four, together with two younger children and two of Katherine's young friends, were killed by an unidentified, ax-wielding assailant in June 1912–an unsolved crime that is still Iowa's most infamous murder mystery.
