Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains formed an impassable barrier to early settlers in New South Wales. Legends soon grew up of a white colony located somewhere in the range, or past it, ruled over by a "King of the Mountains." Not even the first successful passage of the chain, in 1813, killed off this myth.
