Turks and Caicos badge

The badge of the Turks and Caicos, which adorned its flag until it became a standalone crown colony during the 1970s, was inspired by the local salt trade. Between 1874 and 1966, thanks to a foul-up in London, the right hand of the two piles of salt was given a smudgy black "door"–product of a civil servant's ignorant assumption that the islands lay somewhere in the Arctic.
