The Truth is absolutely stranger than fiction!
In 2006 we published a children's picture book 'The Catalpa Escape' about the great adventure which we are now just adapting for publication as an ebook. It will have many new layers of information and activities for students.
The publisher is Fremantle Press, just a stone's throw from Fremantle Prison where the escape took place in 1876.
There have been some TV documentaries, radio programs and plays about Catalpa but yet to be a Hollywood film...it will happen one day. Great story, only successful escape from Fremantle Prison (operated for over 130 years), full of near misses and the luck of the Irish shinning through, America wins, no one dies...

The prison-break of Dennis Doherty may also be of interest as it occurred during the same time/place.
Here is an excellent podcast on the subject...

Absolutely fascinating. Truth IS stranger than fiction. Has anyone made a movie, television show, radio programme about this event? Ironic that the Irish fought so long for their independence and are now part of the European Union.

At first I thought the picture of Michael Harrington was Humphrey Bogart. The resemblance is uncanny. Very interesting blog. Past Imperfect is my favorite. Keep up the good work.
