The helmet nowadays isn't a protection, but a weapon.
Give them a leather helmet, like the old days, and they'll stop spear each other and start use their bodies.

Thanks for your questions. It's true that the older versions of artificial turf were found to cause more concussions because the surfaces were so hard. But the new generation of turf is more forgiving and some think that it's even safer
than a natural grass field in cold weather because it doesn't freeze. As far as the helmets are concerned, some research suggests that ironically as they offered more protection, head injuries increased because players became more likely to lead with their helmets when they make a hit. That's obviously behind the rule changes we've seen in recent years in the NFL.

HAS THERE BEEN ANY CORRELATION BETWEEN OLD GRASS
FIELDS VS THE NEW CONCRETE USED IN PRESENT STADIUMS CAUSING MORE INJURY. WAS THERE A POINT
IN HELMET CHANGES THAT CONCUSSIONS HAVE BECOME
MORE PREVALENT? I WOULD SHURE LIKE TO KNOW THE
TRUE OUTCOME OF THESE TWO IF THEY WERE STUDIED.

I think the best way to avoid injuries in a gridiron game is to actually reduce the amount of protective gear. Are you going to be more careful when you are driving a Hyundai or a Bradley tank?
