I am the author of The Mesh and thank you for this incisive article.

About the time that the book was released, we launched a online global directory of Mesh companies and organizations. There are more than 5,000 listings in more than 30 categories, (up 4.5x since release), & the site and a short manifesto is online free to share at: www.meshing.it

Anyone who is working with or aware of a mesh program or company is welcome to add it to the directory and join our growing worldwide community.

I run Ecomodo.com peer-to-peer website that enables people to lend and borrow their everyday goods, skills and spaces with their neighbours, friends & work colleagues. And our lenders can lend for free, for a fee or for charity!

Overcoming trust between strangers is something we at Ecomodo.com have spent a lot of time pondering and we have a whole bunch of clever features built site to help people feel more comfortable about lending their stuff. We enable people to take deposits for their items which we hold for the duration of the lend, choose an insurance option for lending household goods with a replacement value of over £50 and our feedback rating system checks both parties are happy at the end of the lend - and if not we have a dispute resolution system in place to sort out the problem. On top of this, Ecomodo lenders can automatically restrict who can borrow their items with trusted lending circles (friends, neighbourhood, workplaces, schools, clubs etc) which also means feedback given may have very real-world implications.

Ecomodo is free to use and currently only available in the UK.

Great article, peer-to-peer commerce enabled through technology adoption will explode over the next decade. These new companies will move upstream from existing market leaders by connecting consumers and bypassing the middle man (Hertz, Marriott, Sunbelt, etc).
My company ToolSpinner is specializing in renting the power tools we all purchase and store in our garage and use once a year.

I think the shared concept is a good one. How will it really help the economy? I see it working for pooling investors but we rely on people buying things not sharing. For more information about electric vehicles visit:http://www.chargedelectricscooters.com. Instead of selling new electric products i should start focusing on repairs and share terminals? This gives me something to ponder.
