You point out the current environment within Congress which is having a huge impact on public transit investments in the U.S. This being said, the U.S. has made progress, and if you look deeper into it, still maintains its standing as lead innovator in many regards.  One example is the success of the Morgantown, WV PRT system implemented over 30 years ago and is still a success: http://transportation.wvu.edu/prt

Likewise, the U.S. and its private sector are working together on electric buses: www.proterra.com and www.ebus.com are two examples.</description>
