Thanks, Dave. It's good to hear from you and get your perspective. I agree that it's important to view enhanced ebooks as another avenue of storytelling and not a replacement for the traditional novel.

Speaking as the author, I will just emphasize that I did say *a* new kind of novel, not *the* new kind :) Personally I'm very happy with the traditional form of the novel and I don't believe any other medium can beat it for storytelling. But as well as novels we have movies, comic books, and so forth - and now this: a new thing that I couldn't have published between two covers, but only on a digital device. So I hope people will try it out, secure in the knowledge that I'm not trying to replace Mary Shelley's original, just to give folks a different route into a classic and powerful story that is not read nearly as much as it should be.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Frankenstein app. When I read a book, I want to immerse myself in it, I want all the extra details. I love books with footnotes or images, especially if the text references things from bygone times, or technical items that I need defined.

In this article, I sense something I'm seeing from insecure readers everywhere: the fear that ebooks and new media are going to supplant traditional books. I work at a used book store, and none of us are scared of that happening. The inkle book just looks like another way to enjoy a beloved story. And if it is successful, it'll draw happy readers back to the original text. If anything, new media is what keeps old stories alive.
