The Man With the Golden Gun always seemed to me to draw some inspiration from The Most Dangerous Game, although I'm not sure if this was mediated by any of Fleming's books (I don't recall how closely this 007 was based on original source, I'm guessing not much).

Also, apologies for quibbling, but calling 1987 the peak of Arnold's popularity seems questionable when Terminator 2 was still four years away. I'd argue his pinnacle begins with T2 and falls off just before Action Hero. But it's a silly discussion anyway.

Sorry about this, Chiefs, but you missed the Get Smart episode "Island of the Darned", #11, 1966, based upon The Most Dangerous Game.

Do you people read an entire article? Battle Royale, and Tarantino's fondness for it, is spotlighted in the introduction.

RollerBall as Marco said is one of my faves because like near-time scifi, that I like, predicted so much of what our society and nation are morphing into.
Sue Collins mentioned that when she was working on this work she was writing it as an active anti-war story. I was drafted and served in SE Asia. I noticed that guys in my unit didn't have all the options I had when I left. It never left me.
We seem to send an awful lot of poorer young people over the past 50 years to undeclared wars all over the place for misguided reasons and yes, I'll say it, Corporate greed. How about that for the ultimate Hunger Game.
