"Eep Opp Ork Ah-ah" has aged very well thanks to the Violent Femmes.

Jet Screamer may have derived from Conrad Birdie, the subject of the 1960 Broadway show Bye Bye Birdie.

And Jet Screamer reminds me more of Frankie Avalon, considering the beach movies he made with Anette Funicello around that same time.

I'm surprised you didn't deal at all with the punch-card aspect of the food maker when they sit down for dinner. Punch cards were very much a tech concept of th 60s and lasting into the 70s with the TV show "Space 1999" and their use of punch cards with the wall computers. Punch card technology was very much a product of IBM and the Jetson creators certainly didn't think very hard that it might evolve into something else like TV screens/monitors by 2062.

In the screen shot of Jet Screamer you included he looks distinctly african-american. I've seen a few other screen shots where it's a little more ambiguous. Were there any racial overtones to his character?

I predict that in 2062 humans will have one more finger on their hands than the Jetson's do.

"1912 was a lot different from 1962, and while I won’t try to predict what life will be like in 2062, I’m willing to go out on a limb and say that it’ll be a lot different from 2012."

Of course by then we'll all be as old as Montague Jetson, though by then we'll probably be the best physically-fitted senior citizens imaginable!

There's a lot about how the 21st Century hasn't turned out like this. A lot of "where's my flying car" and the like. Let's remember that we still have fifty years to go to get to George, Jane, Judy, and Elroy's time. 1912 was a lot different from 1962, and while I won't try to predict what life will be like in 2062, I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that it'll be a lot different from 2012.

"What I find amusing is that today’s youth can get upset about a cartoon character from half a century ago smoking a cigarette and sipping on an alcoholic drink, but cinematic and television horror, violence, and amazingly crude jokes are acceptable and cool. This is progress?"

The end credits of every episode has George receiving a pipe from Judy anyway, but yes, what progress have we made?

"Watching the Jetsons just reminds me how much the real 21st Century continues to disappoint."

It does that for me everyday!

I am a huge fan of cartoon voices and never cease to be amazed at some of the voice talent that existed in 60s cartoons (Mel Blanc was of course a fixture in the 50s for Warner Brothers, and carried over well past that time period). Some trivia from this episode is that the voice of Jet Screamer was Howard Morris, who is best known for his role as the crazy hillbilly Ernest T. Bass in the Andy Griffith Show. He was the voice of numerous other cartoon characters, including Atom Ant, and became a fairly successful director later.

I have the Saturday Morning - Cartoon's Greatest Hits CD. There are a ton of great memories on it. I had forgotten how some of these shows were originally prime time.
