Dan:
"I think that the real world cars of 2012, with touchscreen navigation systems, voice commands, Bluetooth connectivity, collision warning, backup cameras, and park assist systems are far more interesting than “Hey! This is a car! And it flys!”"

Just more headaches for the driver alone. Probably why I'm glad never to have driven a car yet in my life.

I've been a longtime lurker of Paleofuture, and as always, it's fun to see the cheesey, antiquated visions of tomorrow from yesterday. Oddly enough, I've never seen the Jetsons, other than glimpses on the TV as a kid.

You know, I find it odd that every discussion of the future inevitably results in a mention (often sarcastically) of flying cars. To me, flying cars, jetpacks, and mealpills are the least interesting ideas of the future.

That “flying carpet car” from “Closer Than We Think” shares a lot of styling cues with Ford's Gyron concept car.

I too, was amazed at how sexist The Jetsons was when I got the box-set and sae it for the 1st time a few years ago. Much more sexist than The Flintstones, which was maybe a subtle joke - ie. in the liberated future people are sexist, in the primative past, more reasonable.

“The Jetsons, a cartoon series about a family of the future, was so bad that my eight-year-old son turned off and said a dirty word.”

I hope he got soap in his mouth before bedtime!
