Lemmings reproduce to great numbers, followed by one or more 'catastrophic' events that significantly reduce their population. So it is for the population of human beings on planet earth, where the word 'catastrophic' takes several different forms - earth changes, hunger, wars, genocides, etc. The time scale, however, may be different. Evidence exists to suggest that their predators’ populations are responsible for changing the population of lemmings.
