They are pain-tolerant. Naked mole rats&#039; burrows are often low in oxygen causing them to respire anaerobically which leads to a build up of lactic acid (the painful stitch we get when exercising too much) much NMRs do not feel pain when exposed to lactic acid and indeed most chemicals.

They wear masks. NMRs have been seen to carry a chip of wood under their incisors while diving, this prevents them from inhaling dust.

They are caecotrophic. They eat their own faeces to acquire additional moisture in the heat of the desert.</description>
