Movie of the Inside of a Woman’s Body as She Gives Birth

Imagine being crammed into a narrow crevasse. Giant magnets are thrumming all around, and you’re being told not to move too much. Now, do all this while giving birth.

New Scientist first reported in 2010 on a German woman who gave birth in a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner, and now they have video proof.

The video captures the active second stage of labour as the mother expels the fetus. The technique, called cinematic MRI, takes repeated images of the same slice of the body before joining them up to create an ultra-detailed video.
