"Why did the ice leave after such a long reign?"

Well, because of 20,000-year-old cars, of course! Really, people who believe that humans can control the weather are about on par intellectually with the pagans during the ice age who thought lunar eclipses were caused by a giant eating the moon. Ice ages come and go.

The earth heats and cools. It's currently in a cool period; it was previously in a warm period. The giant fireball in the sky called the sun has a lot to do with it. Our neighboring planets -- yes, it will be a shock that we are NOT the center of the universe, or even the solar system -- are likewise heating.

A planet doesn't "recover" from an ice age like we do from hypothermia. The Earth is warming up, and carbon pollution is to blame. http://clmtr.lt/cb/lar
